Members of the CCMG who have made outstanding contributions to Canadian medical genetics will be considered.  The award will be in recognition of an outstanding career in medical genetics in Canada or abroad.  The contributions of the members being considered for the award could be in any area of medical genetics: service, research, teaching, administration, other academic activity or scholarly activity.  Past winners can be found here.

This year, the award is presented to:
Barbara McGillivray, PhD, FCCMG, Professor, Department of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia

Dr. Barbara McGillivray is a professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia, as well as a clinical geneticist in the Department of Medical Genetics, Children’s and Women’s Health Centre of British Columbia.  Dr. McGillivray has been involved in patient care, particularly in an outreach setting, research involving inherited cancers, prenatal diagnosis, and the delineation of clinical conditions. Dr. McGillivray has been involved for many years in the field of ethics of research involving humans.  She was a member of the Tri-Council Working Group writing the Code of Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans, a member of the Standing Committee on Ethics of MRC and CIHR.   She is also an experienced REB Chair, and presently a member of the Health Canada
